Children's category (under 18) - 1 winner

Each Grand Prize winner will receive:

  • 'Paddle with the Platypus', Otway Eco Tours (for 3 people [minimum age 5 years old) OR
    Platypus Experience, Healesville Sanctuary (for 1 person over 15yrs old); AND

  • Platypus toy or garden statue; AND

  • Beautiful platypus cushion cover; AND

  • Book (platypus or habitat book); AND

  • Timber platypus magnet.

Ideas...

Plant a garden using local native plants.

Pick up rubbish & put it in the bin.

Pick up hair bands, and anything else that could tangle a platypus.

Cut loop-shaped rubbish & put it in the bin.

Write a letter to local Council, asking for better protection of our platypus and Werribee River.

Pick up dog poop and put it in the bin.

Wash your car at a car wash that uses recycled water, instead of in your driveway or on the street.

Install a rainwater tank.

Reconnect your rainwater tank if you haven't been using it.

Create a rainwater garden in your yard.

Use natural gardening methods instead of insecticides or herbicides.

Use composting and natural methods instead of phosphate-based fertilisers.

Have shorter showers.

Reduce concrete surfaces - use pavers or other permeable surfaces instead.

Don't let loose soil run down the gutter.

Don't let paint run down the gutter.

Other information

  • By entering this competition, entrants give permission for their entry to be shared on social media and the Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance website.

  • You may enter as many times as you like, as long as you are doing something different to help platypus each time.

  • This competition will open on Saturday 9th September 2023, 9:00am, and will close on Thursday 30th November, 11:59pm. The competition judging panel may choose to extend the competition closing date at their discretion, in which case the new closing date will be announced on this page and on Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance's Facebook page.

  • A panel of judges appointed by Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance will select the Grand Prize and Second Prize winners based on merit of entries, once the competition has closed.

  • The panel of voluntary judges will randomly draw eight random prize draw winners.

  • All judges decisions are final, and prizes cannot be exchanged for cash. If for some reason (e.g. COVID restrictions a particular prize is no longer available), the winner will receive a prize that is similar in value to the original prize.

  • This information may be updated for clarity at the discretion of the competition panel.
